Melissa Alcorn
2021 Individual Angel Award Honoree

My journey to CSCP came through my father’s diagnosis of stage 4 malignant melanoma in 2009. When his treatment failed to be effective, I was devastated and asked the doctor if there was a place I could go to talk to someone. He gave me a Wellness Community calendar (CSCP was formerly the Wellness Community), and I immediately set up an intake meeting. When I attended my first meeting, I walked into a room of complete strangers, and two hours later I walked out feeling like I'd made a group of new friends. They were with me throughout my journey and became my new family.

CSCP continues to offer families access to groups and educational workshops. Fun events such as yoga, painting, and mindfulness are a huge part of the healing process. And of course, social events such as the Holiday Party and Anniversary Party just make people happy. Giving people of all demographics a place to go besides a doctor's office and a chemo room makes a monumental difference in their lives. I hope as we grow, these opportunities grow too and that more people going through the journey of cancer discover CSCP and its value.

I can’t imagine my life without CSCP, and I'm blessed to be able to give back. I'm honored to have served on the Board of Directors since 2016, I love working with the ladies of the Guild, and also acting as CSCP's liaison for National Charity League. I've worked on eight Gala Committees - Co-Chairing in 2018. I've been on the Ladies Night Out Committee nine times, Co-Chaired the last Ladies Week Out, and have chaired the Legacy of Hope Committee for the past two years. I'm also a member of CSCP's prestigious Benefactors Society, and the Legacy of Hope Society. I was honored to receive CSCP's Volunteer of the Year award in 2015.

I am Senior Vice President at Anderson & Murison, Inc. I have lived in the Pasadena area my entire life, caring for my two beautiful daughters - Amanda (25) and Megan (21), my clowder of rescue cats, and my two beautiful Labradors - Bogie and Bentley. Both Bogie and Bentley became part of the family thanks to my luck during CSCP Angel Gala live auctions.
